While the exhibition ‘Spiders, Fear and Fascination’ is on at the Royal Ontario Museum, the Black Widow Spider pendant necklace is hanging out at Niki Kavakonis Designs.
Near life sized, and well researched, it includes the hour glass feature on its abdomen, which indicates that her venom is deadly. In fact, she is the most venomous spider in North America. Her neurotoxic venom can also be dangerous to humans, if left untreated.
In addition, the Black Widow spider has the ominous reputation of devouring her mate after mating.
Sterling silver, blackened sterling silver, approximately .5ctw red spessartine garnets.
Each spider is entirely handmade, from 30 parts, plus the garnets. With so many parts, this is a tough build.
