Supports available for small businesses in Toronto

The City of Toronto and its partners offer many supports to help small business owners and operators mitigate and recover from the impacts of COVID-19. These include grants, incentives, online training, advisory services and a new small business property tax sub-class. Small businesses, including restaurants, are encouraged to take advantage of these resources. Find a full slate of resources at toronto.ca/BusinessSupport.


Do you need help finding great staff? Great employers wanted!
Future Entrepreneurship Employment Track needs businesses to help BIPOC youth find quality employment skills training and opportunities.

 

The Federal Government has funded Frontlines, an award winning charity (www.frontlines.to) to provide funding subsidies of $15 per hour for up to 30 hours per week by 8 weeks (Roughly $3600) plus MERCS per employee to employers looking to hire young adults through the program.

To be eligible, you must be a registered organization in Canada with a payroll account and have WSIB or liability insurance.
Other Program requirements include: 1) An available work position or created through this program
2) Work is taking place in a safe environment. Virtual placements are acceptable.
3) Youth friendly environment
4) Agreement to work together!!
Employers do not need to retain the person after the funding ends, but are encouraging sustainable opportunities for our young people. If anyone is interested, or for more information: email contact@frontlines.to

Registration is now open for the 6th annual University of Toronto Entrepreneurship Week happening March 7 to 10. This year’s lineup features the Startup Prize Pitch Competition for more than $60,000 in funding and a keynote by Donovan Bailey. Sessions will address mental health for founders; equity, diversity and inclusivity; and much more. Register for the event.

Free online program to help restaurants and hospitality businesses leverage benefits of food tourism

A new, free online and instructor-led training program is available for restaurant staff, managers and owners – and others in the hospitality and tourism sector – to better leverage the benefits of food tourism in Ontario.
